She specializes in policy evaluation in the agricultural and agri-food fields and SPS issues (food safety, animal health, plant health). She has evaluated a number of key policies in the agri-food sector at the EU and national level for the European Commission and other EU institutions, national governments as well as international organizations. These have included the impact assessment and development of future strategies for EU food safety, animal health and plant health policies, country of origin labelling, the use of health claims and many others.
Based in Brussels, Belgium, Maria joined Agribusiness in 1992 and has nearly 30 years of consulting experience in the agricultural and agri-food sector. She is a member of the European Agricultural Economics Society and the European Evaluation Society, and has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Reading University, UK. Maria speaks English, French and Greek.
